Black background... is it supposed to be like this?

I just bought the game tonight and am really disappointed that the map doesn't display... the screen is black except for the units and a few resources.

Is this a problem with my computer (~3 years old) or my game settings?

Thanks and sorry if this is a totally dumb question... Civ is the only computer game I'm addicted to so I'm not the most tech savvy person out there.

can you post a screen shot. And the map will be black until you explore it.

This was posted earlier. Probably your videocard doesn't have T&L which means you can't play the game (unless Firaxis get's hit by a miracle and makes a patch which makes the T&L requirement obselete).

There is a workaround. Go into the world builder in the game and reveal the map.

Yes, it's like cheating, but there's no other way to play.

Where in the world builder do you reveal the map.
I couldn't find that option.

It's "reveal tiles" or something like that...

Ok... I'm at home now... give me a minute, and I'll post specifics...

OK... once the game has started, open the Main Menu.

Click on "Enter World Builder"

Click on "Reveal Tile Mode" It's in the second row of icons from the top, second one in from the right.

Click on "Reveal All Tiles" - Third row of icons, first one on the left.

Now you will have the entire map revealed to you. The game is playable - but you still have dentures and eyeballs for leaderheads.

Something weird that happened to me is that, I had this problem, but when I discovered 'Calender' the map was suddenly fine. Still though the leaders faces were weird, I think that may be another issue.(?)

Also, yeah, it's weird it only worked in the saved game when I started a new one it still was the same!
