Huge Map Requirements?

Just curious. On huge maps my system slows down a little as the game progresses. I haven't made it to the late game yet so I'm wondering if it gets worse the farther you go. I've also noticed that even when the diplomacy movies pop up there's slight stutter in the animation after a while. Wonder movies begin to skip sound quickly into the game though. I have :

3 ghz Intel4
2 gigs RAM
nvidia 128 meg geforce 6600 GT

Just wondering if my system should handle it or if this is a problem for others. I've heard theories of memory leaks but who knows. Thanks for any info.

Edit : Oh yeah, latest drivers, defragged & all that jazz.

As long as you have a good amount of RAM you should be fine, and of course a T&L video card (GeForce2+). I have a GeForce 6800 GT and I had only 512 MB RAM and I was experiencing some serious slowness in the game... Only until I increased my RAM to 1 GB was I able to end the sluggishness.
