  • VPU Recover pops up

Alright, I'm getting this annoying VPU Recover error box every damn time when I begin to play Civ4. It mostly comes after I've run the game for 2 to 5 minutes and switches my screen to Windows(my game keeps still running normally). Otherwise if I turned VPU Recover off from the ATI Control Panel, the game would instead of this, freeze my whole system.

The error text goes like this:

"VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands.

Please tell ATI Technologies about this problem.

The generated error report contains only system information such as driver version, AGP settings, graphics frame buffer size, etc. that will be used to analyze the problem. This report will be treated as anonymous.

    [Send Error Report] [Don't Send]"

I would really want to know the reason for the appearing of this box.

Is anybody else getting this with an ATI card?

Does something specific happen in the game engine that would cause this?

I got it quite often, usually on the diplomacy screen. See the thread "Possible workaround for animated leader bug"

Check in the ATI control panel, theres a button you can turn off that counters this problem, Im not at home right now or Id be more specific - somebody here prolly knows though...

Open ATi control panel. Go to Smartgart section. Change AGP speed from 8x to 4x and disable fast writes (very small performance hit). Should do the trick.

Change AGP speed from 8x to 4x

??? why ??? Not that it makes a big difference.

          Absolutely, also buggy as hell.

          VPU Recover

Turn it off, takes away resources too.

Because it's so common reason for graphics card crash.

Ah, never had any problems with it. Got a link for it, never really it was even an issue.

I have a similar problem except my error says VPU recovery failed restart now Yes/No.

                Would the same solution help?

The other problems I got are hard freezes and sudden reboots, any ideas?
