  • Argh! Scientific Method!

All in all, I really dislike how scientific method obsoletes monstaries. I was at one point in a game holding onto all of the religions but I couldn't spread them because I couldn't build monastaries. Besides that, monastaries are great buildings for culture on a contested border, or as a coupling to the Spiral Minatet wonder.

The "organized religion" civic allows you to build missionaries without them.

Yeah, but it also generally pisses people off. Either other civilizations or own people.

I think I lost a game because I delayed scientific method and didn't get the proper military technologies. It seems that marines, and later modern armor are all incredibly uber compared to previous tech.

Well that's part of the decision making you have to come across. It wouldn't be all that fun, if it were too easy, would it?

More than that - it wouldn't be all that fun if there was always one decision that was "right". Forcing decisions on the player ( do I want to delay Scientific Method, run the Organized Religion civic, or forego Missionaries? ) each with different down-stream implications is what makes the game interesting.

Well, to me Organized religion outweight all the other possibilities. As soon as I get monoteism - I get to chose Organized religion civic and I keep it until the very end.
