  • F.T.T.C. Interview: Bob "Sirian" Thomas (Part 1/5)

'Four Time's The Charm': Team Interview Series Apolyton Civilization Site ( http://apolyton.net ) [ACS], one of the oldest and premiere online fansites for the Civilization computer strategy gaming series and its extended family, is today announcing the existence and start of their "Four Times The Charm" (FTTC) interview series. In co-operation with Civilization IV developer Firaxis Games, ACS will bring you over the next several months exclusive conversations with members of the online Civilization community who have gone onto become Firaxians and work on CivIV. They feature detail about the internal CivIV beta test period co-ordinated by Firaxis, and about the individuals interviewed themselves.

Launching the FTTC series is Firaxis consultant Bob "Sirian" Thomas, who took the lead in CivIV's map scripting. ACS Interview Chief 'Solver' leads Thomas in a five-part discussion about Thomas' involvement in CivIV's development, the gaming community online and off and Thomas himself. "Solver and I had a good time together", Thomas says. "I think we ran somewhere close to ten hours across three days? He kept encouraging me to say more rather than less, so I went on and on. CivIV has been all positive for me. I'm very happy about how it has turned out, so it was easy to discuss at length".

Published today, the first part of Thomas' interview focuses on the steps that lead him to begin a formal relationship with Firaxis in April 2004. As CivIV began to ship in North America, Bob publicly announced his intense involvement in its development. His official Firaxian title is 'Consultant', but he has proven himself much more than that. The second part is scheduled for release on November 7th.

Little nitpicking, but the first link to Apolyton in your post doesn't work, Dan.

          Good one.

          Solver keeps surprising us lately.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

Sirian has a good site and I'm looking forward to reading this.

I have a technical difficulty to report: Google ads are covering the right portion of the text column, making it impossible to read in Opera. Firefox works though.

Let me know how it is now -- I made some code revisions.

(I use Firefox and Netscape myself).

                  Get Opera now, it's free

Here's the image I get now, but bear in mind it could be a cache issue now. I don't want to clear my cache, and I've read the interview in Firefox.

                        Hi again folks.

I am hopeful that I have now resolved the problem viewing the interview in both Internet Explorer and Opera, if not earlier.

No response to my most previous call for follow-up here, but let me know.
