really weird screen res options...

i did a search of the forums to see if anyone else had this come up but after looking through 120 somthing posts out of 2000+ i gave up.
in the "set screen resolution" in advanced options ive got like 100-200 options like
0 x 2353
1x1
248015x820752
7449932x88243762
crap like that, no ive not clicked any to see what it does, ive been getting pretty good play time without crashes and dont want to risk fudging it up.
i would however like to play the game in the 1200x range but for all the weird res'es it only goes up to the 1024 range.

That probably has something to do with how Civ4 is communicating with your system asking about what are supportable Res considering both Vid Card & Monitor (e.g. mine only gives 1024x800). Perhaps you have a custom built card/monitor or something is preventing the correct information from being passed to the game.

Anyway, one thing you can try is to set custom resolution in CivilizationIV.ini, accesible via a shortcut in the install directory of Civ4 or in C:\Documents and Settings\User_Name\My Documents\My Games\Civilization 4\

Scroll down to find "ScreenHeight = 0" & "ScreenHeight = 0", where the comment is "; Custom Screen Resolution, ex: 1200x1200 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when both values are set to 0"

I've tried this to get it to run at less than 1024x800 on my LCD in windowed mode with no luck. However, perhaps custom res has to be bigger or equal to 1024x800. Certainly from the comment you'd expect larger sizes to work anyway.

thanks for the help, i found 1280x1024 in the jibberish and it works
by "custum build" do you meen non-ati built? because i have a sapphire 256 radeon 9600 pro, but ive never had those res'es in any other game, and ive got ALOT of games.
