  • Graphics issue, but only on "World Screen"

    Hi all.

    I'm running Civ IV on:
    Athlon 2800+
    Nvidia 6600GT.
Win XP (installed DX9c from CD too)

The game runs well and all graphics work fine except for the zoomed out map (accessed by clicking on the little globe button on the bottom left of the normal screen)

In this mode, the world map just looks all fuzzy and wierd, can't make out anything. If I zoom in to the normal map everything is ok again.

Anyone else had this experience or have any ideas what's wrong?

Same here. I can fix it temporarily by alt-tabing the game back and forth.

But the game runs flawlessly otherwise so I would love a fix for this.

I don't know why it happening... I would think a 6600GT should be more than sufficient for Civ...

Thanks, I'll try the Alt-tab and see if that works.

Got the same problem and also have a 6600GT. Anybody figured this one out yet?

There is quite a discussion about this on the civfanatics forum:

I have an X2 4200+ 2GB RAM 7800 GTX Another user on another forum I go to has had this glitch with an nvidia card. Sorry if this has been addressed already, I looked and didnt see anything that looked like this. The glitch only happens when I zoom out that far.

I have seen no definitive solution. The solution I have come up with (which is annoying), is to go to the Civ IV graphical options, change the aliasing from 0 to 2, then back to 0. I hadn't heard about the alt - tab fix, that sounds faster.

In addition, once fixed, the world view seems fine until I create a settler. Something about that unit that puts the food / hammers icons all over the map seems to be the trigger for messing this up.

This does seem to be happening for a lot of 6600GT users.
Where are we going? And why are we in this handbasket?
