umm... city names...

  • umm... city names...

    Ok, this is probably my bad or something, but I started playing and somehow didn't notice this at all. But I loaded up the Revolutionary war scenario and I still didn't notice it untill I was trying to figure out what city to attack...

    I have no city names! It doesn't show the city name, what is being built or the city population. I have the circle and the two bars that show how far along I am with production and health, but no text in it. Is this something I could have turned off somehow?

      You may have accidentally deleted the name of the city when you founded it.

      When you found a city, a text box pops up asking you to name your city. The default is a pre-picked city such as "Paris" if you were playing the French.

      If you accidentally hit the delete or backspace or space keys, this may be the result.

      If this is happening to more than one city then you have an application issue to which hopefully someone else can assist.

        yeah, it's an application thing, Like I said, I didn't even notice it untill I was playing the Revolutionary war scenario and I couldn't figure out the names to the British cities

          well, we're making progress now, I did something to take the rest of the text away, that was pretty awesome, now if I can figure out what I did, maybe I can reverse it enough to bring it all back :hmm:

            What happens if you select (or unselect) 'detailed city info' in options -> graphics?

              Well, it was enabled (with out an x), and when I disabled it (With the x) it didn't seem to change anything. :s

              This has to be by far, the most uniqe problem. I have a FX5200 and everything else seems to run fine, a little clunky, but fine. I can play with max detail with out much of a problem.

              I have no other errors, other than intro videos being choppy, which i turned hardware exceleration off, which helped, at least a little. I have changed nearly every possible setting my card will allow and I still have nothing.

              And, it's not a bad CD because I don't have the problem on my laptop. I tried a fresh install, no luck there either. This seems like something so basic and trivial, that it has to be just a settings issue. The game is supposed to be running ok on my card, I'm just out of ideas on settings to change.

              Did anyone have this during testing?

                    Well, I bought a new graphics card, a new sound card and some more ram, and after installing all that and fixing the rendering problem, the game works flawlessly so far.

                    Now, while my computer needed the upgrade anyways, I am curious as to if that problem will be identified and fixed seeing as I was the only one to have it either here or on CFC.

                      I have exactly the same problem - good to know it's not just me. I have a GeForceFX5200, btw, and so far everything else seems to work OK.

                        Yeah, I had a FX5200 as well. I spent an hour in the chatroom with snoopy and we couldn't get anything to display it.

                        The last thing he suggested, I didn't have time to try. go to http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_install.htm and follow those instructions and see if that helps any.
