  • Civ IV - Gameplay CRASH

I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem that I am?

Civ 4 crashes my machine. Simple as that. I have the setting tuned to where my system plays the game perfectly and within 10-15 min of gameplay; crashes (reboots) with a "quick" blue screen.

I've played civ 4 on one of my older machines and it was great (minus it being slower). Both machines have AMD Athlons and Nvidia Video Cards. I've included specs below ...

First Machine (CRASHES - BLUE SCREEN)
    ABIT AN7
    AMD ATHLON XP 2800
    1GB PC3200
    BFG GEFORCE 6600 (FORCEWARE TRIED: 77.77 & 81.85)
    ON-BOARD SOUND

Second Machine (Runs o.k. - No Crashes)
    ABIT KG7-RAID
    AMD ATHLON - TBIRD (1.4GHZ)
    1GB PC2100
    BFG GEFORCE 5500 (FORCEWARE: 77.77)

This is driving my insane! Can someone help?!
    Thanks

Had you bothered to look on this forum at all, you'd see there are about a billion other people with the same problem. No one really knows how to fix it.

It would seem that you really don't understand the issue at hand ...

Having it working on one machine and not the other is just puzzling ...

Both of them having Nvidia based video cards

Now is this not an issue of being the video card(s), or is it?

It appears to be more than just the video card. Some people with card 'x' will be able to run the game and some with the same card and system specs will get nothing but crashes.
It appears to be a combination of video card, memory, and conflicts with other software/drivers on your machine(s). Also there appears to be at least 1 if not multiple memory leaks.
