Why isn't there an option to bombard with my artillery.?On the catapults there is a bombard button but it is gone on my cannons and artillery units.

How do you bombard and/or attacj ground units with a destroyer? There is not option for that either.

Did I miss in the unit description that machine gun units are defensive only?

You can't. You can only bombard cities. For that you will need to be in an adjacent square.

If you want to take down a enemy stack of units, then you will need to engage in "direct" combat with the arty. Simply move your unit into the stack.

Depending on modifiers, you will most likely lose that artillary unit. On the plus side however, the stack will be a lot weaker - each unit losing up to 30% or more, depending on how many successful attacks your arty had.

So only attack stacks with Artillery units if you are then prepared to attack the same stack with conventional units (since they are 'soften up', it shouldn't be hard). You can also attack with multiple bombard units to soften the stack up even more.

If you don't follow up with a conventional attack, your arty's will have been wasted.


Arty's are kinda like cruise missiles in Civ4. If you're lucky they survive to fight another day
