Crash during "Play Now" load

I don't know if it will work for this particular problem, but I found out that not playing maps bigger than Small worked for loading new games, and using 16bit colours fixed my inability to load saves.Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

I have tested loading with different map sizes. The loading hangup occurs for small maps too.
This is getting really annoying.
I think I will try a reinstall (again) of the game, my drivers and directX tonight. I have not done that after I tested with the patch. Maybe, not likely but maybe, it will work...

As expected. Reinstallation made no difference...
The game runs without crasches as long as I load a saved game. Never had any problems in the game.
What systems does the problem occur on?
I have a hp notebook with:
intel centrino 1,6 Ghz
ati mobility radeon 9200, 64Mb
512 Mb ram
Its not the fastest system in the world but it meets the recommended system requirements except for the graphics. But then again, ingame playing works fine.
Whats systems do you have?

If anyone is interested...
Tried with the omega drivers and they did not work with my computer. Maybe because it is a hp with widescreen.
And hp does not have any new updated drivers...
With the drivers I am using I cannot turn agp off (and I probably would not do it if I could)...
Doesn't anyone have another solution?

I believe I have the solution. For me anyway.
It seams that the latest omega drivers does not wortk with my computer (hp compaq nx7010) but earlier versions do. I installed the omega 2642 (catalyst 5.6) and am now able to start games! All the time! I haven't played for any long time yet, but hopfully the omega drivers does not cause any other problems...

There is a Major Memory issue in Civ IV. A fix has been produced that really does work. The thread is sprinting towards 32,000 hits at the time of this post - all in 4 Days!
Its not a dubious amateur hack. If you get CTDs - slow down - reboots - massive save files etc - go now to this thread, its put Firaxis to shame
Current version of the fix is not compatible with 1.52. It either does nothing or crashes. Update addressing this issue is on its way. The patch I was coding during last month is finally out. The patch is compatible with 1.00 and 1.09 versions of civ4. So, here we go. You will need 3...

Has anyone loaded the 1.52 patch and found that it fixes this problem? I have been playing by starting a new civ, then quitting before actually hitting the "play now" button, and then loading the autosaved version... but the last time I installed a patch, it prevented me from doing even this, and I had to roll-back to the old installation.
