why do you need 512 RAM for this and 256 for windows 2000...?

It's a bummer as i tried to upgrade to 512 on my xp recently but could only get upto 384 the PC people at the shop i go to said my pc wouldn't take any higher....

I am loathe to but a new PC but looks i will have 2 ...can anyone confirm that at 384 i have no chance...?

The minimum requirements say that you only need 256 MB RAM for either Windows XP or Windows 2000. However it is always better to have some more memory in espeacilly if you have such a memory eating OS like Windows XP.
