  • M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard won't work

My M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard cuts out during the loading screen and I can't get a signal thereafter.

I'm an avid gamer and Civ 4 is the first game that has had an issue with this soundcard.

Anyone else having issues or any suggestions?

Yes I have the latest drivers, Direct X9c, and Windows XP sp 2.

    Thanks.

Some people are reporting that changing the device mode in the game to 'Use System Defaults' helps with sound issues. I haven't had any problems with sound, but I also don't have an M-audio card. How do you like the card?

Believe me, I'm going to be the last person to blame you or your system for the bugs in this game. If the drones come to defend the machine that is Civ4/Firaxis/2K, they'll have you doing hand stands to fix the problem.

sorry, I had to put that in here. Its really late and it makes me laugh I'm so tired right now

I have the same setup as you and the same problem. Not much hair left to pull out. I have wanted this game since I knew about it. I am hoping my m audio card does not stop me. So I second the motion for HELP!
I will keep trying to fix and if I figure it out I will post.

BleckLord... I've had this soundcard for about three years and I'm a big fan of it. When I originally installed it I kept my old SoundBlaster thinking that games wouldn't be very compatible with the M-Audio line. Fortunately all the games I've played so far (including Civ 3) work flawlessly with it.

The Audiophile 2496 is a wonderful card for hobby music production. It has analog, digital and MIDI in/outs and does a great job with whatever music app you're using with little latency.

I guess recently M-Audio stuff has kinda gone down the crapper. I got a firewire external Audiophile audio interface for my laptop and had to return it because its performance was worthless. I've heard similar stories with their other equipment. They've been bought out and their manufacturing has probably cut corners.

But, the original PCI Audiophile 2496 is their flagship product and performs great for the cost.

As someone who works in the game industry, I'm guessing that 2K Games' bug testing (and printing) dropped the ball on Firaxis bigtime.

Hey uncolla, was reading the Civ 4 min specs and it wants a DirectX7 compatible soundcard. I dug around the M-Audio website and Audiophile manual and couldn't find anything that said what version it supported up to... only says it's DirectX compatible but no number. I wrote asking M-Audio for more detail and hopefully they'll get back to me.

Hey I have an M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 too, but I don't have any problems with the sounds at all. The only prob I have is that my computer will completely freeze until 30 - 60 mins of playing and the only thing I can do is reboot the machine

M-Audio got back to me and the card is compatible to 9.0c.

Lost1, are you using the digital outs or the analog? I'm using the digital and that's what's cutting out.
