No, not even close. My machine is well within the requirements.
Generally, the game won't even run. Every once in a while, it will, but then...it dies. Civ 4 not only crashes, but puts the machine in a coma forcing me to hard reboot.
I can understand and forgive (barely) a bug along the lines of "this feature of the game doesn't work quite right." However, these are blatant and just plain inexcusable lapses. The graphical issues that are running rampant are particularly inexcusable because the borrowed the system from Pirates! to make development easier!!!!
And yes, heads should roll. Be they the programmers who released this crap or the business people who forced them to do it before it was ready.

No. I get regular ctd's and lockups. I also have skipping sound during movies and occasionally get glitchy gfx when scrolling large distances on the map. Sometimes I can fix this by alt-tabbing to windows though not always.

Game crashes to desktop randomly (intervals range from ten minutes to about an hour). Its so bad I quicksave after every turn.
1. Go to your installation directory (default is c:\program files\firaxis games\Sid Meier’s Civilization 4\)
2. Double click the file _Civ4Config
3. Set AutoSaveInterval = 1
As I say I haven't tested this to see if it works and maybe you'd prefer to leave your auto saves alone but thought I should mention it... Hope it helps!

Hi Everyone,
Yes! CTD's every few turns or so after around 1500AD on a Large, not Huge, map.
Dell 4600 Pentium 4 (2.8 Ghz)
768 Ram
Originally had an Intel integrated that did not work. Bought an Nvidia 5500.
Did not work with original drivers.
Worked poorly with the newest 81.85 driver. This driver is where I experienced the most CTD's and critical errors.
Works best with the older 71.89 driver; however just recieved my first CTD with this driver after a couple of hours or so of heavy activity in the late game (wars, huge 50 million plus civ, space ship development etc.)
It appears to be a scolling issue within the map. I have noticed that if I mouse around the map is when it is mostly likely to CTD. The memory usage at this point is in the ozone 480+MB's. This is a level that would long use up 512MBs the recommended memory alotment. Either there is some kind of memory leak, or inefficiency in the programming, or a gig+ of ram on a really super-fast machine, and not some standard midling machine like I have, is the true requirements to run the game.
The game is the absolute best when it is running.
Thanks for noticing,
Mazra

3.2 ghz machine
1 gig of ram
GeForce 6800
Works like a charm. Some jumpy movies during endgame (there's clearly a conflict going on, since I notice I can still hear unit sounds right when the music starts playing and that's when it gets all jumpy), but nothing to worry about. No crashes, no slowdown even on large maps, nada.

Game works but Im having mayor skipping in the movies. The playing is also slow and with delays opening menus and moving units.
I have:
2.0 MHz AMD
128 MB Radeon 9200
512 MB RAM
The game is in great need of a patch. To be honest Im wondering how it could have been launched in the first place. I see a lot of people getting it to work good... after doing this and that. A normal game is supposed to work when you buy it, not after unpacking this and changing that!
And when you have the recommended specs or even more you should be able to run the game, all mapsizes, throughout a complete game. Not having to stop after a while cause the program has eaten all your memory or something like that.
Finally, I love the game, gamewise, and am really hoping for a patch SOON so I can watch the intro movie for the first time!!

As far as I can tell my system meets or surpasses recommended requirements in all areas but memory (I have 256MB which means the minimal requirement).
Yet it takes my DVD drive on average 10 minutes to recognise the disk (the drive seems to be okay as I have no problems with any other disks, DVD or CD).
When the disk is finally recognised I get as far as the starting screens of Civ IV (the done loading screen and music starts) but I never get into the game proper (the whole system essentially seems to freeze, my diagnosis programs tell me Civ IV is drawing on the processor and memory).
I expect it would load eventually, but having to wait some 10 minutes for the DVD to get recognised then an unknown time for the actual game to start doesn't look like fun to me (I believe it loaded once, but by that time I'd left the computer screen and my computer eventually went to sleep before I got back, which brought me back to square on of having to recognise the DVD).
Marc aka Caran...
P.S.: If there wasn't the DVD problem I'd just go and get some added memory, 256 MB is pretty low anyhow. But right now I can't be sure the game would run even after that.
P.P.S.: As far as I can tell all my drivers are now updated, I even de-installed and re-installed the game once after updating my system in case my original instalation was corrupted.
Edit: Got it running now though I haven't had time to actually play (and see whether there might be otehr in game problems). The DVD problem still isn't solved though.Last edited by Caranorn; November 9, 2005, 07:23.

3.2GHz P4
1GB RAM
X800XL 256MB (tried cats 5.10 and 4.12)
Audigy 2 (with latest drivers)
Had the initial ATI problem, solved with unpacking the art files.
Some wonder movies have sound stutter.
Only serious problem is the CTDs I get when running a huge map.

My system meets recommended specs.
Issues:
intro skip
cheshire cat
black tiles
What is the world builder fix? Is it a work around for the black tiles?
Is a patch in the works?

GeForce FX 5200
1GB DDR RAM
2.0 GHz Processor
Windows XP
Doesn't Crash BUT out of nowhere is having a problem with hte mouse cursor blinking in game. It blinks extremely fast and every single thing I have tried to fix it did not work. No one on here has even acknowledged the post I made which is frustrating in itself. I have all updated drivers etc... The problem started when I shut the game down to desktop normally, it shut down to an 8-bit screen (which it did once before), i restarted the computer like I did before and went to bed. When I woke up it had the cursor problem and I have been trying to fix it all day.Asoka is a great leader.
