  • CTD and more!

I can only play civ4 for about an hour or so before it crashes in one way or another. In the 4 times Ive loaded up the game, its crashed each time. The 1st 2 times it crashed it was just a CTD and the 2nd 2 times it crashed it rebooted my PC !!!

The CTDs were caused when I hit a function key to go to the military advisor etc...

and the Reboots were caused by once hitting an AIs name in the score box, and once by scrolling out all the way into world view...

Seriously irritating - now that Ive come online Ive noticed I should upgrade to 5.10 since Im an ATI user - Im gonna try that and see if it fixes anything. I dont get an error messages at all so none of the other threads here seems to be the same as Im experiencing.

I had the problem of CTD at random points too. I tried for hours updati ng my drivers etc to get it to stop crashing with no luck, then I created a new windows account and played it in that, so far the problem seems to have gone away.

Well, I installed the 5.10 drivers and just played for the last hour, as if on cue my computer reboots... wtf, on the gamespot review it said this game was 'stable'!

This time it crashed when I hit the 'end of turn' button.

I changed my sound setup to 'Use Default Setup' to fix the skipping sound on the wonder videos, after playing for 1.5hours it still had no crashed, might be fluke, might not.

PS: the wonder movies still sound skip, but only half as much, if that

Just so yall know, now that Ive setup my 'Audio Setup' to 'Use System Config' everything is working perfectly.

              No more CTDs

              No more reboots

              Wonder movies arent skipping

              :big thumbs up:

What do you mean "audio setup"? I have no "use system config" option in anything I've found. Exactly which window, how do you get there, where's the button or option list?

How do you set SYSTEM CONFIG for sound ? I only have the choice for my sound card listed in that options menu.

                        Okay, just pretend we're stupid.

What "audio options"? Do you mean the audio tab of the in-game options menu? Okay. Where exactly on the display is it? Is this a pull-down menu? Radio buttons?

On my install of Civ 4, there is nothing with the text "SYSTEM CONFIG" anywhere on any part of any piece of the user interface, not in the options, not anywhere else.

Its in the audio configuration tab of the options menu. 'Use System Defaults' is an option in a drop down menu beside where the audio device is displayed.

                          ie: mine says

SB Audigy 2 ZS, and next to it is the drop down where you can find 'Use System Defaults'. It is the same one that has options like '2.1', 'EAX 2', 'EAX 4', 'Direct Sound', etc.

Also, I've tried the new windows account trick. No luck, I still get crashes about every turn now. I've also been using 'use system defaults' since late last night (Friday night).
