  • What size maps are you playing on

It hit me that their might be a problem based on the size map people play on. So what size map is everyone playing on?

    Standard.

Huge. Some of us old timers like games that take forever!

I started on standard but thought the map was tiny so moved to huge. Then found out that the area you can scroll too is only limited early on so that maps are actualy much bigger than they initial appear ...very cool

Sticking with my huge game for now, made a custom game with 10 civs and custom contenints = 5. Lots of fun.

Are the guys playing on "huge" trying to compensate for something else... something "smaller"?

I personally play on smaller maps

            J'k fella's.

First one standard, second one (now playing) also standard. I think it is large enough. For some quick games I may use a smaller one. Probably never go larger than standard.
Normal is still quite fast, so I may try epic in the future.

I play on GIGANT from my mod: http://magnus.infidyne.com/civ4/

It is 2.25 times as large as "Huge", this combined with slow tech make really fun games. Had a great medieval war yesterday that lasted for probably 100 turns. Requires lots of RAM though - I have 1.7GB.

Huge, with only 3 opponents. The Barbarians make up for not having more AI civs. Once i get the hang of things I will up that like I have in the past.

Anything larger than standard creates problems on my system after mid game unless I turn all of the graphics down to low.

I had the map issues then updated my grphics drivers and they went away...the game still hangs a bit on creation....

what was that about the maps being small when you start but growing afterwards ?
Lincoln's Gettysburg address has 226 words, The Ten commandments has 296 words. The US dept. of agriculture's order setting the price of cabbage has 15,269 words
