Tell the game to use DX 8.1?

This is the story. In Day Of Defeat there was a config option where you could tell the game to use 8.1 DX features rather than 9.0. In older card like mine, FX5200, this modification made the game to run FLAWLESS with no choppiness at all.

Is there a similar option or parameter to modify for doing this in CIV 4?

civ4 REQUIRES DX9.0c (i think it's c).

Yeah. All games nowadays say they require DX9, but only for the latest eye candy efects. I'd like to read an aswer from a firaxian or a beta at least, not from a Settler (no offence )

Civ4 does not have an option to use DirectX 8.1 instead of DirctX 9.0c. In fict it requires a special version of DirectX 9c, almost only available with the game install.
