Can we have this thread closed now?
You can stop posting in it, if you don't like it.

I don't see anything in this thread that would warrant its closing.

Hopefully there is Cleopatra still. Also Indira Ghandi, Queen Elizabeth. There should be more gender choices.
Joan of Arc was a half-crazed-peasant-girl-turned-mascott. You could just as well have Marylin Monroe lead the Americans.

      • And as for attracting female gaming audience, if anything they should change Alexander to look more like a 28 y.o. Collin Farrell.

          • Bah, I would rather have it be historically accurate than try to be PC and I am a woman. Yes, they do have to pick and choose, but it would be silly to pick a woman who was just a well known historical figure who was not actually a leader of a civilization.

            • I'm conservative, and I don't see it as being PC. It is recognizing the capability of either sex.

As to historical accuracy, that goes out the window when you play any Civ game.

Supposedly, Frederick II of Prussia was into tall dragoons. So you can play Germany and imagine yourself to be his latest catch. :P

I'm a liberal but prefer leaders to be historical, rather than unhistorical.

                  • Also, I'd like to clarify that my reasoning for wanting more women is not to be "PC", it's to because, as a woman I want to play a woman.
You don't play as the ruler, you play as a civ with a given trait combinations (you have an option to choose your name when you start the game).

Personally, I find Victoria (Expansive/Financial), Elisabeth (Philosophical/Financial) and Catherine (Creative/Financial) to be all very powerful combos, and them being women doesn't prevent me from playing as them and enjoying the civ.

By the same token anyone could be arguing that there is not enough gay rulers or black rulers in game, and someone who is gay or black wants to play them.

This is a strategy game, not a roleplaying game, for god's sake - what is your ruler's gender is visible only on the diplomatic advisor screen.

But seriously, I think its a great opportunity for mods to offer some alternatives, but having four historical women leaders seems OK. I can't defend the point of having nonhistorical women leaders. Its a game play issue, primarily for women gamers who would like to see these choices.
Joan of Arc is actually in, as a great prophet. The way it should be.

Sure, since you seem unable to let sleeping dogs lie.

I would venture a guess that this discussion would drop if you stopped posting in it, but maybe you're enjoying youself too much?

Well I happen to be a more liberally minded person but its not my politics that make me reply to this. Its the stupidity to which this issue is addressed.

You want to intellectually address this concern? Here is the answer you should provide.

I understand your desire to have more female leaders, but the work involved in doing so would take money from the product to be able to put in game play changes that is the real reason we all buy new versions of the game. Really when it comes down to it, it doesnt matter who the leader is. After all, you can rename the leader to anything you want.

So while you might want more women leaders, I am happy they made the choices they made and was able to put in this or that new feature to the game.

Having female leaders included in the game is not a party platform of any of the Liberally minded political parties. It is however a platform of many male gamers that would like the pool of female gamers to be fed more. You see, women, as I have said before, are more fun than games. That said, I like that my wife is a gamer so she is sympathetic to my need to play to 5am and she can talk to me about the game because she plays to.

If adding in women leaders into the game makes it so that more women play the game because they can identify with the leaders more? Lets just say that in my ledger of life, thats a mark in the black.

However, if you want to assign everything you dont like in life to the liberal agenda conspiracy, by all means do so just dont come to me asking for intelligent conversation. I'll be happy to ablige but I wont be talking to you.
