  • How about a short list of proven vid cards that DO work?!?!?!

    Just a thought.

I have an ATI 9800 PRO 128MB, working. I am using latest ATI drivers (actually it was working with 5.8 Catalyst and now I'm on 5.10). Did not get any render errors, did the unpack think on the ART file anyway because I was having problem running the tutorial or scenarios (anything where the game "restarts" when you pick it). It seems there was a problem having to do with my desktop being at 1280x1024 with the game at 1024x768. Eventually I played a regular single player, set resolution to 1280x1024 in-game, then I could run tutorial and scenarios OK. So the only bad symptom I ever had with this card (even before trying any fixes) was trouble running the tutorial.

To expand upon this thread, my brother bought a computer specifically for the purpose of playing Civ 4 and it turned out to be insufficient. So, what type of computer would someone have to purchase to guarantee that they could play the game without any problems?

Until patched, there is not a guarantee. Some X800's work, others do not it seems. My X800XT-PE made by Asus works perfect, I have experienced only ONE graphic bug relating to Alt-Tabing.
The unpacker released yesterday seems to have solved virtually all problems related to the 9500-9800 series however.

No guarantee? What machines do all those reviewers have?

My 9800 PRO worked flawlessy out of the box, and my X800 PRO worked after the fix and applying my other fix. The X800 PRO does have some animation issues still, and gets a big game-destroying bug with a black screen after a religion movie.

Not sure if the 9800 PRO has NO issues or not, haven't tested.

I have a genuine ATi Radeon X800XL. The game works after the fix; I only have one little issue with it, and it's disappearing popups after a while.

No clue why it happens, but sometimes when I hover the mouse over items to build in cities, the popup doesn't show. An hour later, it comes back on...

Just installed it on my Inspiron 6000 laptop with ATI x300 graphics. Runs quite nicely. Didn't get too far into the game, as I'd rather get back to my desktop. Getting ready for an upcoming trip and wanted to make sure I got it installed.

My Sapphire 9800 Pro runs the game flawlessly, as well, as I posted here:

This happens to me, and reloading the game (simply saving it and reloading that save) fixes it. Also, Alt-tabbing fixed it several times, and caused it a few times. Seems weird eh?

eVGA geForce 6800 GT works great.

Same thing here, the old nVidia FX5200 128bit 128VRAM,
doing its job with the game, with no crashes, for 2 days now.
It's a little slow, but I'll play with the settings as soon as I can pull myself away from the game.

My laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 works great. My laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 has the cheshire cat/black terrain problem (even though it does support T&L and is specifically listed as a supported card).
