  • What? No forest planting?

Why can't i grow some trees?

I'm in the middle of the modern age building all these nice pollution generating buildings. All of a sudden my cities start shrinking with all that smog, so i decide to do something against it. In the civipedia it says Forests provide 0.4 health bonus.

But oh my... all my automated workers raped my terrain of trees. So naturally, i want to go plant some forest. BUT I CAN'T!

    WHY NOT?

To us, it is the BEAST.

Damn. There's an oversite. Need an automation that leaves trees alone.

The flexible game engine better allow for new worker jobs to be modded in. How the hell did the guys at Firaxis forget TREE PLANTING if forests give health bonuses?

I asked about the Forest Planting in the chat. Soren said it was not included to reduce mm or something along those lines.

I'd imagine that the spectre of infinite forest chops rose its ugly head and perhaps coding to allow only one chop per square as in patched Civ 3 was not deemed a good solution.

However, forests can spread, and have a greater chance of spreading if the unforested tile has no imprevements and has more forest tiles adjacent iirc.

Good reason to leave a few gaps between cities imo.

Actually, not implementing "planting forests" adds to the MM.

Because now you can't automate the workers because they might chop down your forests.

You can't plant trees, but they may grow into an adjacent tile. So can jungle.

You can't plant trees because chopping is worth 30 shields now. Over the possible 20 tiles for a city, that would be 600 shields to be had through tedious overuse of workers.

So... who's gonna make us a mod to allow forest planting?

honestly, if someone wanted to go through the haslte of doing it, they should be able to.

                  I personally wouldn't bother.

Yeah, there should be a way to automate workers without them cutting down all the trees and building roads everywhere. Bad for later gameplay, and kinda ugly too. ;-)

I'm not so sure there should be a way to plant forests though. I don't know that that's ever happened IRL. At least, not planting a forest the size of a large city.

Plus, there's at least one good reason to leave your forests (besides the health benefits): the lumber yard improvement (or whatever its called).

If someone does mod plant forest back in, I wouldn't enable it until environmentalism. I mean, maybe we could pull off planting a whole forest these days IRL, but it would be a big deal and have to be for a good reason: like pollution and global warming.

Actually, having grown up in Washington state, I can say that forest planting is alive an well up there. Of course, the forests that are planted aren't like old growth forests, but the stuff planted 20+ years ago certainly qualifies as forest now...

Sure, but does it cover as much area as, say greater Seattle? (Forgive me if I'm wrong. We don't have too many trees where I grew up. ;-)

Maybe you could mod in planting a 'proto' forest that grows as its worked similarly to the cottage improvement, only maturing into a real forest after some period of time.

I was about to suggest something simular to that. Why not have forests start very small and grow into the 'normal' forest. That would defeat people abusing it unless they'd mass harvest forests and rotate growing and cutting them. In addition, if they did that they'd probably be pretty low on food (a positive and a negitive).

                              Had to register first...
