axeman special ability question

The manual reads as follows:

Axeman
Melee Unit, Strength 5, Movement 1

Special Ablilites:
+50% versus Melee Units:When in battle against melee units (warriors, spearmen, AXEMEN, and so forth), the axeman's strength is increased by half.

Ok so... if two axemen are fighting doesn't that void the special ability since both would have the same advantage?

Yes, special abilities do cancel out like 1st strikes by archers and 50% vs melee units for axemen.
