Suggest a Video Card

There’s a lot of discussion about video cards, and I am trying to cut through all the posts a bit. Mine runs the actual game fine, but isn’t completely up to snuff won’t run the intro movie and has a glitch or two on at least one wonder movie so far.

I am going to replace it, so I am asking for a little help on Video Card upgrade suggestions. Those cards, named by brand, which definitely have the specs to run this thing properly.

Without a doubt, you need a nVidia card. They have better drivers, and Civ4 is only having problems with ATIs at the moment.

Which card specifically depends on your budget. A GeForce FX 5700 would be a low-budget choice, the 6600 is, IMO, the best combination of quality and price. Reasonably cheap, yet a good performer.

I took a look and I think I’ll be going with the 6600, looks to be in the right price range. If Civ III is any indication, the price of the new card, plus the price of the game will factor out to something like one fourth of a penny for every hour played.

Sigh i deliberatley got a decent pc instead of a real cheap one to allow me to play civ4 with decent speed, athlon 64 3800+, sata drive, 1GB ram BUT i have an X800 GT card

looks like i still wont be able to play it ;(

Get an nVidia, take it from someone who tried ATI and is regretting it. If you can afford it, get the 7800 GTX. I wish I had.

Another question:

Okay, in my HP, I currently have an Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family, which I understand to be an “integrated card” (disclaimer: “understand” means actually no understanding at all). Is this an issue, or is a straight swap with the 6600 no problem?

TheArsenal, Integrated means it's built into the motherboard. In many cases you can add an additional video card - probably PCI - (such as the 6600, and simply disable the onboard "card".

Well, I'm waiting for game availability in Italy, but I have a Fujitsu notebook (so no way out if graphic card is not supported).

Has anyone run the game on a Mobility Radeon 9700 SE 128MB?

My Win XP usual screen setup is 1280*800 (wide screen TFT) 32 bit 60hz.

Now that the ATI fx is out, it should run on that card.

Interesting note on the Nvidia.... I have a Nvidia G-Force FX 5200, and I am having problems (blue screen instead of opening movie, and no menus visible).

The game runs fine out of box on my ATI X800 XT AIW with 5.6 driver that I updated few months ago.

I have the Nv FX5200, the game runs well, but the performance is poor (A64 3500+, 1024 RAM). Im thinking to get another card.
