  • Crashes to Desktop

I finally got CIVIV working last night and played the game which by the way I found to be freaking awesome. The only problem that I have now is that it crashed to my desktop 3 times during my 2 hours of play time. I tried lowering the graphics and everything but that didn't seem to help. I had actually anticipated this problem on my ATI Radeon 9100 card because I had the same problem with Rome Total War crashing to the deskop on me. That is why I went out and bought an ATI Radeon 9550 but it gave me the render problem that others have been experiencing. I'm going to take the 9550 back to Wal-Fart today at lunch but my question is should I get my money back and just deal with the desktop crashes or should I exchange the 9550 for an NVIDIA card and see if that fixes the problem? Is anyone else having desktop crashing issues??

I have an NVidial GeForce 6600 GT and I have crashed 3 times in 3 hours of gameplay.

The problem is, when *I* crashed, it wasn't to the desktop, I had to hard-boot my PC each time.

One of those times, my monitor acted like it had been physically disconnected, but I could hear the game playing through my speakers! Strangest dang thing. A reboot fixed that one as well.

The other two the game just sort of froze on me, and though control+alt+delete did eventually kill the application, I couldn't re-launch Civ IV until after a restart, due to a problem with DirectX or my video driver. Not sure what the deal is, Civ IV installed DirectX already, and I have the latest driver from NVidia.

      Odd, very odd.

You guys should run dxdiag and make sure the DirectX doesn't have any issues with your machine.

Start > Run > type in "dxdiag" and hit OK.

BleedThe Freak--------Read the BUg Thread (I've posted There)

I've experienced Crash to Desktop, Crash to no Monitor (Like a disconnect), and Crash to Hard Reboot.

Nvidia GeForce 6200 4xagp slot w/128 Ram on the card.

Well I have a GF 5900 Ultra and I also get a crash to card reboot along with the locked screen yet the game is still playing.

When it does play for a length of time the damn thing eats up about 600 megs of ram... sheesh!

Yeah, I checked out your posts, sounds similiar to my own crashes.

Oh dear, I see some rather spectacular bugs have managed to make it through

I should point out all the bugs *i've* heard of have been hardware related, and that's to be expected with as many varieties of PC's there are, especially those like myself who built our own PC from various hardware.

                    I crashed yesterday.

When moving across the map really quick to a unit it thought about it for 1 minute and then finally got there, then it did it again and crashed to the desktop.

Anyone notice that kind of laggy thing?

I wasn't running 1 thing in the background just civ.
