well, they did fight for the nazi regime.
of course it wasn't willingly in most cases, but that's what propaganda does to you.

my ex-girlfriends grandfather fought on the czech border. they had been indoctrinated that the czechs were evil murderers and rapists who pillaged and razed every german village they came past. i took him nearly 10 years to fully recognise how wrong his beliefs were and how he had been blinded by propaganda-flamed hate.

And then we invent the internet and Propaganda-flamed hate spews uncontrollably all over the place once again.

Yes, some were blinded by propaganda, mostly the ones that entered the war later after growing up under the nazis. A lot of them weren't though annd it's unfair to paint them all with the same brush. Think of the 30,000 soldiers killed in the German army after July 44 Army plot to kill Hitler for just saying "I don't like Hitler". Hitler always thought the army didn't trust him and most of the command didn't till he replaced them with yes men. Most soldiers faught for Germany, the nazis are a political party, I don't think many soldiers enlist because of the Liberals or Conservatives. The nazi party's army was the Waffen-SS. My Opa says he was fighting communism and had he been on the west he would have crossed the line, he was raised to become a priest though and seen a lot of bad stuff before the war happen to his teachers.

        Sabrewolf,
I think you mean the Russians, the Czech's were the Germans allies and faught along side them. The Russians were often depicted like you said even before they did start mass rapes. That's why many in occupied countries joined with the Germans.

DarExc: i'm pretty sure he said the czechs. but maybe they were russians fighting in the region...

iirc czechs were "just" collaborators, not allies.

Not that this has anything to do with Civ, but...

There was a border dispute between Czechoslovakia and Germany before WW2 because the NW parts of the Chech domain (Sudetenland) had large German populations and Germany was claiming that Germans should be governed by Germans and other such things. This was basically a ruse to get Czechoslovakia to cough up their heavily fortified borderlands, because the Czechoslovakian army was as modern and mechanized as the German and would have been incredibly difficult to dislodge from their fortifications in the densly forested mountains on the border with Germany. Because of severe lack of testicular fortitude in France and England before the war, the Czechs were sold to Hitler at the Munich Conference in September of 1938 - without even being invited to the conference. Czechoslovakia was partitioned and the Germans were given their borderlands, and later annexed the rest of the Czech territory, creating the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (a puppet state that was increasingly more of a puppet and less of a state as the years went by) and capturing the extensive Czech military industry in pristine condition. And, well, that was that.

But fortunately they saw fit to keep them in the game. *whew!*

Now the only question is whether or not Marines would actually be USEFUL in CIV.
Marines are extremely useful attacking machine guns defending cities behind a river.

Didn't they also get the equivalent of the Amphibious promition in training?

In that case were all the American soldiers fighting against them Deomcrats and every Russian soldier a commie? Screw thanking Russian soldiers and American soldiers, thank Communism and the Democrat Party of America. Thinking like this you would make an ideal nazi.

                                Some people are too sensitive

A nazi soldier is a soldier fighting for the nazi regime. Doesn't matter what political ideals the solder has, that's not what is relevant in a war.

"In 1939, the nazis invaded Poland"
"No! No! The Germans invaded Poland. Sure, the orders were given by nazis, but not all soldiers in the army were nazis."

Come on! You can overdo on the political correctness.
