ok, of the people who have the d3dx_26.dll file and the 8.18 ATI driver...

how many have a default resolution that is not 1024x768?
    - What's that?
    - It's a cannon fuse.
    - What's it for?
    - It's for my cannon.

Mine is 1280x1024, but I've tried everything from 800x600 to 1024x768 and so on.

I run 1280x1024 but tried it at 1024x768 and 800x600 even. No good.

When I went from 32 to 16bit res. the program actually goes a bit further before displaying the error.

Mine is 1280 x 1024, optimal for my monitor. Let me try at lower.

I have the required files and driver and have tried lowering resolution to 1024x768, tried to start the game in windowed and normal mode, and even hard-coded 1024 and 768 in the .ini and no go :-(. I have an ATI Radeon X800XL, but obviously many different ATI cards are having trouble.

I should note perhaps that when I edit the .ini to have the game start windowed I reach the render initialize error far faster than when it is set to full-screen. Don't know why it would make any difference. Set at full screen it seems to try for several seconds whereas in windowed mode it pops up the error instantly upon reaching that part of the load.

Default is 1280x1024, native res for my 19" LCD, but tried it down at 1024x768, and still the same error. Have Dual Monitor (second is a 17" Acer with 1280x1024 Native Res as well) but I've disabled the secondary for troubleshooting.

From another thread on Poly (nothing to do with me)
but it seemed apropriate to post it here

[q= Ghost...]I've been able to fix my issue (with the help of another poster) by switching my screen res (system, not game) to 1024x768 and then loading the game. Once I'm into the game, I switched it in game to 1280x1024 (my normal res) and the game loads fine now with my regular system res. So, basically, it seems that if the game is set at a different res than what you are using, it won't render...but, I'm in now...(yea!) Hope this works for someone else.[/q]
