  • How to install the "vital" files from game's DirectX version?

The Firaxis techs stated that we should have about 5 files in our dxdiag/directx files listing with 2005 timestamps. My most recent timestamp for 9c is 8/11/2004. Despite trying to install the CD's version of DirectX, no files are being written to my computer. Anyone have any idea how to force the install? Would getting DX 8.0, installing it, and then going for this game's 9c work?

I have quite a few 2005 files. Ones updated as of today are 9 though.

Looking at the post where Soren asked if anyone had a file named d3dx9_26.dll, which I am assuming to be a direct x file, I searched and found it in my system 32 window - timestamped 5/26/2005. But that file - either by design or witchcraft isn't showing on the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

I have precisely the same problem. D3DX9_26 is in the system32 folder, but doesn't appear in DXDIAG, and no file in DXDIAG has today's timestamp although I've run the DXSETUP on the Civ4 DVD about ten times.

"Rollback" to DirectX 8.1 using DirectX Eradicator 2.0 (http://myappz.tk/), then install DX9.0c from the CD. Note: You need your windows CD, win xp sp-2 users uninstall sp-2.

I didn't do any of this and have had no problems. Why is it needed?
