  • The Install Disc is actually the Play Disc...

This applies to the US regular version of CivIV. There are two discs, Disc 1/Install and Disc 2/Play. However, if you try to use Disc 2 to play, the game will prompt you to insert the correct disc which apparently is Disc 1.

I too recieve the "Please insert the correct disk message.

When I switch to disk 1 the game starts to load and (I'm trying the tutorial, and I get to a picture of Sid and a voice that says, "hello, I'm Sid" and then the entire game shuts down. I've reported to teh telphone supprt deswk and they say they are having lots of problems and will email a response to me as soon as they have it figured out.

Over at Civfanatics, they are talking about problems with some ATI cards - mine is an ASTI Mobility 9600.

Hope someone figures this out soon as I'm getting burned out on Civ 3 and Sulla's page has me drooling for this one.

Yep, disk 1 works fine as the "Play" disk. Great game - I've already had to set the alarm to remember to stop playing and go practice electric bass. Looks like sandwiches and chips every evening for four months or so

The same thing is happening with me. But Disk One starts the game with a black screen where (I suspect) a intro film should be and during game play I am not getting any music, just sounds.

Same happened here. The install disk started the game installation fine. The game wouldn't play with the play disk in. I needed to put the install disk back in before the game would start.

Yeah, have that here too. That's sad. I find it kinda cheesy when they mis-label disks like that. Oh well, accidental, I suppose. Obviously NOT intentional. No hard feelings fireaxis/2Kgames!

Look at it this way: You have a MUCH more valuable copy as it is an error. Vision it as a misprinted postage stamp!

Yeah, but I'll bet they won't make up anymore versions, that ARE fixed.

                    At least yours WORKS

Oh, I suppose that since it works on my other, virtually identical (c'ept for vid card) computer, I COULD play it on that... but the mouse sucks, and the chair.....

I’ve now had enough time in game and reading the boards to determine a few things:

The mislabeled disk thing is a non-problem. My intro movie does not appear because of my Pentium integrated video card (IIRC, I’m not a computer guy), but not a disk issue.

(And this one makes me feel like an idiot) The default music volume was simply set to low. Once I found the sliders, all was well. Also nothing to do with the disk.

All in all, minor video problems aside (including one glitch in a wonder movie) after three hours of play, it runs fine (I will be changing out my video card however).

                            Me too.

I worked around it by ejecting and resinserting the 2nd CD. Then by attempting to "explore" the directory it forced my computer to read the CD. Fortunately, it continued the installation with no problems. Next, I closed the explore window and all was OK.
Since my disks are labeled wrong I had to go back to the install CD to play.

Good Luck! The game looks good outside of these small irritations.
