  • How does the UN work?

I was reading that once the UN is built, a Secretary General is elected and then resolutions are voted on and passed.

Some resolution force civ's to have certain civics... others ban nukes and stuff.

My question is... is the UN like some kind of tyrannical force?

can you just like, not agree to do what it says?

Is membership in the UN optional?

    How does it work?

I mean, when someone builds it... does it just automatically start doing all this stuff?

How does the UN affect war? Can you still go to war with it built?
To us, it is the BEAST.

    UN starts acting once built.

Getting a resolution passed isn't that easy, but if it votes for civic X, then you're forced to switch to civic X, even if you don't have the technology for it.

It doesn't prevent / affect wars in any way.

so if the resolution passes, you are forced to have that civic no matter what?

so membership in the UN is mandatory once it is built?

        As answered in other threads:

        Yes
        and
        in all probability: Yes

the UN membership should be voluntary

if there is not a way to change it, then I will take it out of the game completely!

I have no interest in the UN victory anyways... it's for losers... if you can't conquer the world, get domination victory, build the space station, or get culture victory... you don't deserve to win by "diplomacy"

                that is a wussy victory

If you are not some backwater insiginifcant civ, you should have enough votes (or be the Secretary-General) to prevent resolutions you don't like.

It is a game, that's the way it works, what would the point of the UN if it wasn't mandatory.

                        what is "appearant"?

                        "spirit of the game"?

can you explain what you mean by this?
