You're getting the game for $5? Was it some kinda promotion or a mistake?

I could be wrong but I believe all of the reviews released so far had to get the ok from Firaxis. That has to color things as does the fact that both Apolyton and CFC need to keep in the good graces of the Civ4 team if they want to continue getting the inside scoupe.
I seem to recall these same groups fanboyed Civ3 even though its intial release version was less then perfect. So far the game looks better then expected but I'm interested in getting community reviews since they don't have to stay so cozy with Firaxis.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

While you certainly have a point Oerdin, I doubt Solver(just to pick one) would even write these (p)reviews if he didn't like Civ4, let alone playtest it for several months. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

BTW: he has said that he didn't like it completely.
I doubt Firaxis was pushing him to do so, I really don't think he got a mail from them saying he should come out and say that spies in Civ4 could be better. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? How it works here is you pay $5+ as a down payment in advance and they'll pre-order the game, Any money you owe at the end you pay when the game comes in. So the 5$ accually goes towards the purchase price and not as an additional fee.

the inside what? we posted our previews with extremely little new info and after all the big media had their "hands-on" play previewsThat has to color things as does the fact that both Apolyton and CFC need to keep in the good graces of the Civ4 team if they want to continue getting the inside scoupe.

btw Oerdin, apparently Firaxis DID give media the final version for review after all....Co-Founder, Apolyton Civilization Site
