  • Modern War

So I've been thinking about Civ4, and the one thing I really liked in Civ3 was warfare in the modern era. The whole skirmishing on the outskirts of a city with the artillery and air support slowly etching your way in to the city core where you'd have the whole air circus followed by tanks and Infantry. It had like a whole different feeling from the hordes of cavalry in the ealier eras.

Anyhow, here's the question to the testers or anyone else in the know: (if its within their ability to respond, NDAs and all) How's the modern combat in Civ4? And how are the planes working (or atleast your impressions of these two if nothing specific)?

Yep. The real bastard is the plane droppings. Decreases health all around your cities.

Then airports can be constructed near the farms, I hope.

Planes (and choppers) flew in SMAC(X) as well, but only intermittently attacked targets, regardless of how superior their odds were. Will they now attack more often, and will the AI have an underlieing strategy in how they attack? And will the AI now employ aircraft carriers correctly?

You're right. I normally do not engage in any real war until I have discovered tanks. If I do attack a neighbour before it is because he has some strategic resource or I think that he is sooooo weak that war will be over in less then 5 turns (seldom succeeds before I have tanks)

I generally don't engage in much real war after I achieve tanks...
