When MP came out for Civ3 it was supposed to be an option but it was never enabled AFAIK. If you check the ini file for PTW you'll see what I'm refering to.

Funny thing is I'm a yankee, but my son is a redneck. That's what happens when a yankee moves south of the mason-dixon line and has a child.

I guess we'll just have to wait till release date to find out about the voice chat.

Actually voice chat did work in both PTW and C3C it was just so poorly documented that it never took off, and for some unknown reason C3C shipped with it turned off in the ini. And there was no ingame way to turn it on. So people just resorted to using voice chat over IM's that they had anyway.

Seeing as Civ3 shipped with force feedback, I'm not completely surprised to be honest that it came with this too.

Voice chat would be pretty cool for Yankees and Carpetbaggers alike

Yeah, C3C did have voice support, but it wasn't on par with the many other voice chat offerings available at that time. Yahoo Instant Messenger has become - at least at C3P, I can't predict the future - the preferred voice system of MP.

There's a button on my speakers that turns off voice chat. Also an option on my volume control.

                    It's called "Mute".

                    But it sounds interesting ...
