  • Unique Units

Ok, I haven't seen much discussion around these, but I'm wondering if the way they work has been slightly changed.

I was looking at the American units featured at civ4.com, and noticed that both the Navy Seals and the Marines are represented. My understanding has been that the Seals UU replaces the Marines... but both appear to be present.

So, now I'm speculating that when you upgrade units, you get the "normal" unit, and UUs must always be built fresh. This would eliminate yet another exploit from Civ3 (build a bunch of warriors, upgrade to Legions etc.), and would also tone down the UUs slightly as they would never start with any promotions in place (which could be very unbalancing).

Now if I just missed some discussion where this was clarified, please point me to it.

It also represents the Tank, ICBM and Gunship. The Greeks list Spearman, Phalanx, Galley, Chariot and Scout. The feature just showcases units in general, not Unique Units per se.

That's not the point - the Navy Seals have been listed everywhere that I've seen (including the "known features" list you were maintaining here at 'poly) as the American UU that replaces Marines - while the shot shows us that both are in fact available to the Americans. So I'm curious how the game works in this regard.

Yes, they are the American UU. But that screen just showcases modern units, regardless of who can or cannot own them. You overestimate the intelligence and informedness (is that a word?) of the 2K monkeys who designed that website

This only shows how easy it is to give whatever unit that ships with the game to whatever civ in the editor.

Well... they corrected the leader heads!

Ok - I'll just wait and see. It's the waiting part that sucks.

I sure hope you're refering to the website alone.
