Perhaps he plays just a tad too fast for her to really enjoy it.

but the standard seven-seat game shouldn't take more than 5-8 hours depending on how much you want to micromanage things.

      Seems really short to me.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

They said that a standard game of Civ3 would last for 4 to 8 hours.

That's why we have epic settings and huge maps!

At this rate, in 2020, Civilization 9 will be played in a half hour. LOL.

And will be the only Turn Based game released in 10 years.
Whatever goes up, better doggon well stay up...

Lot of tanks in those screenshots .

And I like the one where "Rock N Roll" seems to be a National Wonder.

Interesting... seems we still have eras... at least somewhat:

It seems like the happiness slider finally will have a use In older Civs, I mostly had it on minimum.

o begin, the happiness slider from the previous games is now a cultural slider. It still provides happiness for your people, but it also pushes your borders out.

Some interesting info on how the tech tree will work:
Given the more open-ended nature of the tech tree, it makes sense that the developers have included some key pre-requisites for units as well. It's not enough now to race right towards the tech that allows you to build the first gunpowder units or the first tanks. Even if you have the core technology that lets you create those units, you'll still have to research some supporting technologies. Stealth bombers require Flight and Robotics as well as Composites, for instance. In addition, many units require certain resources that carry their own technology requirements. So though the tech tree is much more open now, access to particular technologies still seems very well balanced. Since the four-turn minimum on tech research has been dropped, going back and getting old or obsolete techs won't be as big a burden this time around
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
                        G'Kar - from Babylon 5 episode "Z'ha'dum"

That top-down view looks really cool. Back to the good old days of Civ1.

I wonder how many people will use that view most of the time... I myself haven't decided yet, so I'll probably be switching a lot between them in the beginning

OK let me see if I understand how this works: Is it saying that you can research the tech that gives you the first gunpowder units, but you can't build the gunpowder units themselves until you research an "extra tech"? Maybe those "extra techs" are the techs shown in upper right in the tech tree?
