  • What Diplomatic Options are in Civ4?

    Is multi-party alliance in?
    Is Locked Alliance in?
    Is Team Victory in?
Can allies occupy the same square?
Can we hold multi-party round table discussion?
Are there non-military agreements, like trade pact, or joint research pact?
Do we have the ability to do peacekeeping? (asking 2 civs to stop fighting or something like that)
    Can we trade military units?

I mean, seriously, 3D graphics and all that isn't important to me. I want a game that is interesting.

Only in the sense of MP team, afaik.
    Yes.
    Yes.
    Probably, yes (as in CivIII)
Yes, in the UN you can vote for various resolutions.
Yes, e.g. trade pact or open borders pact. Also, locked teams share research, wonder effects, ZoC and LoS.
    Yes.
    Probably, yes (as in CivIII)

I don't remember the trading units or occupying the same space in Civ3. I do however remember it in SMAC.

One couldn't trade military units in Civ3, only workers AFAIR.

I'm pretty sure you couldn't do any of those two.

I am pretty sure that non of the options I listed in the original post can be done in civ3, with the exception of maybe locked alliance. But, the lock alliance in Civ3 can only be set in the editor, there is no way 2 civs can decide to merge and form locked alliance.

I think the best way to achieve diplomatic victory is not through a vote by the UN, but rather, to form locked alliance with all civs.

You couldn't do that stuff in CIV3.

That was one thing better about CIV 2.

which of those could you do in Civ2? The closest I can come up with is gifting military units.

Maybe my memory is fuzzy on this, but I thought I remembered reading some time ago, that multi-party alliances are available for a single-player game as well as multi-player game?

Oh, and for the record, there are two things that I am excited about with Civ 4--the civics options for a customized government, and of course, the topic of this thread -- the diplomacy system.

There was an article I read about diplomacy some time ago -- I tried googling for it, but couldn't find it.
