    What's a palpebral fold between friends ?

    Oh, look! You saved $2,000!”

Reportedly, that was what one of my aunts told my mother when I first opened my eyes as a one-day-old newborn. She was referring to that tiny little crease that appeared just above my lash line — and yes, to the fact that now my parents wouldn’t have to shell out the amount for a future surgery.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t come from particularly vain stock. In fact, quite the opposite — my mother, to this day, is adamantly anti-plastic anything. But for some strange reason, in the countryside of South Korea, more than 30 years ago no less, the existence of that tiny little crease seemed to rank pretty high in importance — along with 10 working digits and a healthy set of lungs — to one average, middle-class Korean family.

molly, excuse me if I'm a bit slow, but what's the photoshopped mosaic you posted above?

Is it your aunt before and after the plastic surgery?

What gave you the notion I was anything but European and Caucasian ? And no, none of my aunts resembled a Cubist portrait in any way.

I believe it represents, in an artistic way, the popularity of having plastic surgery to 'soften' certain unwanted Asiatic aspects of the physiognomy in Japan and South Korea- looking like Audrey Hepburn was very popular in Japan, for instance.

... a busload of Japenese tourists pulls away from the Pavillon Audrey Hepburn. "Arigato!" they call, waving to Franca Price, 57, the museum's director. "Seventy to eighty percent of our visitors are from Japan," Price tells me. She believes it is because "Audrey Hepburn incarnated a simple elegance that is a strong part of Japanese culture."

Ok, of course I was kidding about your aunt, but I have missed the link between the quote and the image. Sorry.

That civ image is way off. by all accounts, Tokugawa was actually quite fat. The civ character is very thin.
The sons of the prophet were valiant and bold,
              And quite unaccustomed to fear,
But the bravest of all is the one that I'm told,
              Is named Abdul Abulbul Amir

Why give a damn about about what the image looks like? Personally, I would have prefered it to have just kept the Civ 3 leader heads.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.
