        I disagree.

I normally turn track off while playing civ games.

I do not do that while playing CIV.

The music is... very... well, I like it.

Yeah, it's nice, I'll listen to it. I'll appreciate it. It'll make the game larger and broader. But it could do without it
I would most probably not even miss it

I don't know - I mean we all say this is all fluff and no substance, but how many people can say they were not disappointed that movie wonders were out of Civ III or they were did not like the quotes/project movies in SMAC? ("Human behaviour is economic behaviour..." etc.)

While graphics as such is maybe not very important, all this multimedia environment of the game is very much part of the game enjoyment for me, and I am glad to hear there is a different tune for each Civ (who doesn't remember fondly the "dum deem dum deem dum deem dum deem dum deem dum deem dum deem dum dum da da" from Civ II? :P)

Nah, I wonder if people were really dissapointed, people just are conservative, they want things to stay the same, and if something is being token away, they complain anyway.

The advisor movies were taken away as well, but that's never been named again as one of the shortcomings of civ3. Why? Because they alerady focus on the wonder movies and forgot about the advisors.

That's just how the human brain works.
The people who complain now how the 3D engine is not good and looks cartoonisch will complain in 5 years if civ5 comes without a 3D engine.

Of course it's nice, I like it, I love it, but it adds little to the game.

                  Hm,
it may add little to gameplay,
but it adds a lot to the atmosphere of the game.

It may not be as important to civ-games as it is for other games, like for example "X -Beyond the frontier" (which probably nobody would play if it would´ve been developed with Graphics from the 80s [although it would be technically possible to play it this way])
but I´m sure that even in Civ-Games a good game atmosphere (graphics/sound) might add its part to the "one more turn" syndrome of the game

I loved the wonder movies because they contained a little historical information on top of the needed game information. A little education is a good thing, especially if the player has no idea who Adam Smith or Leonardo Da Vinci is. I ignored the Civ 2 advisor animations because I felt they were cheap, tacky and not terribly helpful. In civ 3 the advisors actually gave some useful advice and I considered the loss of cheap animations a plus.

I'm delighted the game has more music than ever before, but I can't say having troops speak in their native language is useful. I'd rather they all spoke in english (or localised language for sale in other countries) but with an accent or slightly different spoken phrases that hinted at their origins.

To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.

                        3 and 4 were known already 8)

So, still waiting for 8 more things I didn't knew 8)
5 was already known, too. They mentioned the units speaking in their native tongue ages ago. So I think they still owe us 9.

Damn, overcoming that HUGE mountain range on the Pam Anderson map is going to be difficult without mounted units...

                              I can

I really didn't care much about the wonder movies. Sure, they were nice, but I never gave it a second thought as I heard they were removing it from Civ3...

Advisor movies is something completely different though... how would they ever dare to remove them?

I'm not interested in listening to the tunes that comes with the game. I always listen to online radio or my MP3 playlist. Listening to the music in the games always brings me in a bad mood
This space is empty... or is it?

I think that "fluff" addresses some need for bio-feedback. I remember when the only sound effects for computer games were a "tink" when a shell hit something: pathetic but we missed it when we turned it off.

I'll write a short essay on it one day.
