Yes, I'm a single player too.
If only the friend of mine that loved Civ / Civ2 (and stayed away from Civ III) will accept to buy a copy of the game and clean the dust from its ADSL line, maybe I'll give MP a try.

I suggested many times to him to come here at 'poly, to feel the new game coming, looking at screenshots and reading about feature, but it seems not interested enough until players will confirm the new game is worth the effort. No wonder I don't have problem here with Yin, after all my training in Italy with my old friend!

So better Soren did a good job with the AI, just to be safe with enough game in SP to balance the money I'll spend...
Of course, I voted about banana boss! (Ehi Wally, are you reading?)

I'll probably check out the MP options, but 99% of my games will be SP... I want to play Civ when I want to play Civ, not when some other guy on the other side of the globe wants to play Civ...
      Also I prefer long games
This space is empty... or is it?

<--MP addict all the way, the AI in CIV is rumoured to me better than the C3C AI, but until CivXX or so AI code well never challange a human player in a complex game like Civ without being given horriffic cheats to do so and that's not what entails strategy for this Civer. So I hope to see more of you in the CIV lobby by Christmas!

All true and dandy, challenge-wise. If it weren't so darn hard to get together and maintain online Civ games with, say, 4-6 participants and keep them running over several sessions. Also, there are timezone restraints, which for PBEM simply don't exist.

The quick 1-on-1 games on tiny maps, of which consist most ladder systems, sorry for honesty, are not Civ and not at all appealing to me.

Thats what the pitboss is supposed to remedy though Ralph (although the details seem a little sketchy for now).
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Heh. This is exactly why many Ladderites get upset with the SP world (I myself am not at all, merely pointing this out.) There are a lot of misconceptions about what goes on in the MP community: #1 being "It's nothing but mindless warmongering" and #2 being the above, "It's all tiny games or games that don't finish."

We have so many multi-session "Epic Games" running we had to devote a subforum to them and their own specific ruleset. Come and see what you've been missing, Sir Ralph. It's true that there may not be as many Epics running per day as "Standard" ladder games, but I bet if you post "Apolyton Elite looking for Epic Match with serious ladder challengers"....

... you'll find more than a few people interested.

The current Civ3players ladder is here.

                        And it's forums

We are well on our way to forming our Civ4players ladder and forums, and we plan on opening them prior to the North American release date of 31 Oct. However do not be fooled by any other "CIV ladders" if it doesn't have FP, CS and SPM as the Admins, among others then it is not Civ4players.

I'm not sure who "Tiwaz" although I have a strong theories, but no that sight is not in anyway related to the Administration of Civ3/Civ4players. While I hold no grudge against the admins of this ladder, they are more or less, current/former Civ3players members that take issue with our leadership. Our official position is that the best thing for the Civ3/Civ4 MP community is to have one ladder to best serve the needs of the MP community and Civ3players has done a fine job of this for nearly 3 years, but it is impossible to make everyone happy :-P

I might be slow, not playing MP and such and therefore not being into this, but what's wrong with Apolyton's MP forums/having apolyton as meeting place? Why do you need a separate page for this?

I have nothing against the fine people here at 'poly, but 'poly is *just* a forum. The Cases Myleague service gives us the automated software to run as a MP Ladder, and run tournaments etc. It provides the players with a framework to compare there skill against other MP players in a friendly but competitive environment. We do constantly look for other free fully featured ladder/league services but have not found a better one than Cases.

in the beginning, i'll be going mainly for SP to get to know the game, but also start up the first PBEM(s). MP might be a X-Mas holidays experience and who knows... it might even be more fun that civ3 (where F-P wacked me with his chasqui (sp?) scouts
