  • Age of Empires 3

As most of you know AOE 3 is going to be released in Nov. just about the same day as Civ 4 was to be release.

So I was thinking that just maybe Take 2 did not want to go head to head with AOE.

Some people would not be able to buy both games the same day or week and AOE fans would buy AOE first and wait some time to buy Civ. Of course Civ fans would buy Civ first and wait to buy AOE.

Also the money thing help out. If enough fans buy Civ the first week, just maybe Take 2 can show a profit this quater.

Have you played the generous demo? I'm not impressed. For all the gorgeous screen shots and all the hype, on a "real world" system the game looks and plays really no better than any other (good) title in the genre.

Rise of Legends could be the best bet in this category...

I think that the release day isn't as big a deal as hitting the right release time for XMas is.

I dunno, I liked the game and thought it was an improvement over AOE III.

The graphics are scaled back for the demo. Dont know why they did that, but thats what i've been told.

also,a tremendous amount of bugs have surfaced. ES has even admited one of the formations in bugged beyond use,but it is 'to late' as theg ame had already gone gold. so they have to patch, just so one of there main features they brag about(combat) works

i have 2.7ghz P4 and the game seems to run slow, I don't think I will get it, just Civ IV

I only played 5 minutes of the game and shut it off for being slow.

Is it due to be released that soon? If I am getting Civ4 then I will probably hold of until the new year to get AoE3...

I like Age of Empires, and I'll buy both games. But, if I had to choice, Civ IV first.

AOE is not a competitor for CIV 4. it is a complete other game. And except for the grapthics it doesn't bring anything new to the game (the way I see it off course)

I tried the demo. Same old thing with different costumes. Having said that, most publishers shoot themselves in the foot when they release demos.

It still competes for my time though, and I just don't have the time to play both at the same time and get on with my life. So their acquisition will have to be staggered...

i though Age of Mythology was already the actual AoE3

it could have been a reason why it was moved ahead. for many players, strategy is strategy. and most prefer RTS (versus TBS)... i really cannot understand why, but that seems to be the preference.

anyhow, both civlization and age of empires have a great name and belong to the best that the strategy market have to offer. AoE2 was according to some linux-geeks the single best microsoft product ever

That is very true too...this could all get very confusing...but I think Age of Mythology is treated as a bit of a sideline...
