unless you're planning on buying two copies of the game and let her play on a second computer, you're going to regret getting her hooked on Civ. I made that mistake with Diablo2. My girlfriend has had my D2 disc for nearly 6 months now

You should have gotten her hooked on CIV III so someone can use those disks that are just gathering dust

Hmm you might have a keeper. Make sure this fixation lasts for years before you marry her though. She maybe just playing along to get you to pop the questiopn so she can ruin your life

I'm thinking about getting a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with the following specs:

                        1.8 GhZ Pentium
1GB Dual Channel at 533 Mhz with SDRAM
128 MB Video Card (Mobility Radeon X300)

                        Will this be sufficient?

It should be but the x300 is the low end of that mobile graphics card system.

Mine is almost identical (I got a 2.0 chip) and I ran the test and passed with no problem.

If you can get a higher end graphics card, I wish I would have now.

i've got a pentium M 1.6ghz, ati radeon mobility 9700 and 512mb ram (i passed the test program, but graphic card is only slightly above minimum). from what i've read here, i think i'm going to add some ram. i have one free ram slot.

512 ram (333mhz, 2.5v) is at about 60 euros (1 euro is roughly 1 american dollar). this would make total ram 1024mb

1gig ram (333mhz, 2.5v) is about 150 euros. this would make it 1536mb of total ram.

will it make a difference to have 1536mb instead of 1024mb for playing civ4?

what would you do? i just can'T decide...

Well, the customization options available on Dell's website do not offer that many choices for video cards. In fact, there is only one more video card that is better than the one I mentioned -- I need to look at it again, to see if it's a higher end type.

With the graphics card hardwired to the motherboard in laptops if you are going to pay more money up front for something get the best graphics card dell offers. Thats my advice because once you have it your stuck with it
