      You would??

Hmmm, maybe there's a whole new market out there that hasn't been tapped in yet.

Although this is mainly for the modder who can then go into the program and reprogram all of the code, but also the world editor which we will also hand out later will change the game.
The SDK isn't going to be in the intitial version?

              That's old news.

                about the SDK...

will the game still be shipped with a map editor/all purpose editor like Civ3?

is this different from the SDK?

I read this from the article:

but also the world editor which we will also hand out later will change the game
                what does this mean?

yes, the SDK will allow you to change the rules of the game, AI logic, maybe even let people create completely different mods (eg SMAC mod, etc).
the world editor is more like the editor we had in Civ3

I read this from the article:

i guess BOTH will be shipped later, so most probably no custom maps for the beginning.

Hmmm, I bet you're answering yourself: world editor=map editor (it's 3D now, no more a map but a full world)

the first thing I love to do with a new Civ game is make custom map and make a mod (not like custom graphics or stuff. just some minor rule tweaks)

Sava, you can do rule tweaks the moment you install the game. Game data is stored in XML files - if you want to change unit strength, building cost and probably lots of similar things, that's where you do it.

The SDK is for really advanced modding - creating total conversions, absolutely new features, changing the AI, etc. And games that have a SDK always get that SDK released later, that's the way it has to be.

well, i quote from the article:
Aber auch der World-Editor, den wir ebenfalls nachreichen, wird das Spiel verändern.

                                which is literally translated:
But also the world-editor, which we aswell will hand in later, will change the game.

from your article i don't see it explicitly mentioned that it will be integrated at initial launch...

anyhow, one of the sources is wrong and i truly hope McCracken is erroneous
