Maintenace fee for Novgorod is 1, but 2 for Smolensk. Wonder how fast the maintenance fee increases for additional cities.

        Re: Philosophical--good.

However, the +50% production of Great Wonders still worries the crap outta me for the Industrious leaders.

And when I first saw "fast workers" for India, my thoughts were: 1. How would they trigger a GA? 2. India is gonna be an absolute powerhouse.

Do we know how GAs are triggered in Civ4?

Yeah, and unlike other UUs, this one is going to last through the entire game, not become obsolete (or available only in the late game).

Yes. You need a certain number of great people. I think it's one more for each GA (so first GA is 2 people, second GA is 3 people etc.)

Ahhh, excellent, no longer related to UU. Except for Great People being generated by a UU win; is there any word if that is more likely with UUs?

So to have a true Civ3 style GA, you've got to horde the GPs, and not spend them individually... I like it. I like it a lot.

Great people come from specialists, not UUs, and Golden Ages come from Great people. There's no relation to UUs that I can see.

Are there no military Great People?

Not that there have been mentioned. The only categories ever mentioned were Scientists, Merchants, Artists, Prophets and Engineers. None of these are military, and no Great Generals have been mentioned at any point. In fact, it has been said that armies aren't in, so I'm nearly positive there are no military GP.

                      That's good.

So then I can use my UU's at will and not worry about triggering a Golden Age prematurely.

I always thought UU-triggered GAs were unfair in Civ3. The Aztecs were bound to have a GA before it's useful, some civs would get it at the perfect time for early conquesting (Persians), while the Germans or Americans had to rely on other means of getting GAs.

Besides, if the Indian UU in Civ4 is a Worker, I doubt that one would win them many battles .

they should make the Indian UU an outsourced customer service representative

it could be an economic bonus of some kind during the modern era

Doesn't the pacifism civic also double the birth rate of Great People? So a Philosophical civ with the pacifism civic would produce Great People 4 times faster? That civ would be popping Great People like popcorn!

Well, Pacifism would surely make sense for a Philosophical civ! I don't think, however, that it's so easy - playing a strategy dependent on Great Persons probably also takes some skill.
