  • Need to find a laptop that will run civ 4!

My ancient laptop has finally died. Looking on the bright side, at least I can get a new one that will play civ 4! Don't have a room for a desktop machine, and it's just about the only recent game I'd play so I don't want a top end one.

However I'm having real problems finding any mid priced ones that have a video card with hardware transform and lighting capabilities, even though they more than meet the other requirements (as specified here: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/info/#requirements )

    Any ideas?
    thanks!

I recently got the Toshiba Satelite M40, model PSM40C-JM300E .

They're kinda discontinuing its sale, so it might be hard to get. The battery life kinda sucks frankly, but it comes witha good video card (Geforce 6600), and after i put another 512 ram in it, it runs all my games, even Battlefield 2, like a charm.

Its not listed on toshiba.com, but it is on toshiba.ca. If you can find it, I really recommend it (y).

Another solution is to hunt Geforce equipped laptops as all new Geforce have T&L capability.

I've thinking about getting this one: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Toshi...EN/version.asp
          (toshiba tecra a4)

It has ATI Mobility Radeon X300 128MB PCI Express graphics.
Anyone know if this has hardware transform and lighting? can't see it specifically mentioned anywhere.

I think it supports T&L. The reason why is not mentioned could be that it´s such a basic feature that they don´t list it. After all, T&L has been included in most graphic CPUs for quite a while now.

My notebook plays Civ III just fine so it should play Civ IV just fine as well.

It's the Avertec 5400 XP-M 512MB RAM bought last Aug at Walmart for $1000

Civ4's graphics requirements are a bit higher than Civ3. What's your graphics card like in that thing?
