I don't think so. I have often done it, and have ALMOST done it scores of times.

It depends... If you do this but don’t tell to anyone outside our little and insane community, you’re safe. I think. Maybe.

I like the sound of the ICS fix - hope it really works.

Combat - I don't know; I'm feeling pessimistic. I guess I need to actually play to see if it works.

Also remember, though, that they are only really huge in the most zoomed in maps-which is what I assume you do when you enter combat-and don't you want your units to be the centre of attention at that time?
Exactly. If you look at the following screenshot, it looks pretty much like Civ 3.

borders are affected by city sizes

if the city is big enough, it would be unfair to have less space just for eye-candy

HTower: The borders, when they are along rivers, follow the shores of the river closely (look at Nostromo's pic right above your post). I believe I've heard that natural obstacles would affect your borders gameplay-wise, but don't quote me on that.

Good interview from gamespot, and good answers by barry. Looks like both the interviewer and Barry are really comfortable with the topic. I'm really eager to get my hands on Civ4

I was actually talking about that pic, I just think that it would more closely follow RL if a nation couldn't get both sides of a river when 5 miles away is the border.

The US doesn't hold land on both sides of the Rio Grande with the Mexican border 2 miles south. Germany doesn't control both sides of the Oder river and the polish border is 5 miles east.

Well, in Civ, a tile is not 5 miles, but a fairly big area. On a huge world map, Ireland would be something like 3*4 tiles for example. And Ireland isn't 15 miles wide On a normal world map, one tile would represent hundreds of miles.

Judging by features, it looks like we're getting an absolutely awesome game in November. DrSpike has a point, though, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let's hope the pudding will taste good. Even though DrSpike's pudding is completely different from what I would call pudding.

It bothers me too. In civ3, it was impossible to cross rivers with roads or bridges, because rivers were painted the last. It wasn't a great problem because rivers were thin. But that wide river breaking roads...I hope they fix it.

I saw a photo some month ago where roads were painted ON the river. It's not a good solution, but I prefer it.
