If Marla's still around, I've love to see her Civ 4 earth map based on her Civ 3 earth map.
I spotted her on a Sim City message board about a year ago. I complemented her on her world map, and she said thanks. I felt like I had spoken with a celebrity.

Marla Singer stops by the CFC chatroom from time to time. I believe I last saw her there about a month ago.

I'll be making my 'New Look at the World' maps but plan on making them more advanced, and I have collected new 'view' ideas as well that I'm going to develop.

The Civ3 types were ... (so long ago)

I do, however, plan on making more graphic mods for this game than before ... done school, got tons more time now.

        Cheers!

Aside from the Earth Map, is there going to be any other map or scenario in the release?

well, nothing has been mentioned about other maps or scenarios so far... I think they'll be included in expansions.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

That was specifically made to enjoy new and interesting home-made maps. I would want to have better tools for creating maps instead of better maps. Anyway, I will always want to have my own one.

And when it comes to tools, we need

                1) Limitless number of terrains (20 at least) to have reasonable terrain accuracy.

                2) Some stuff around the poles, which is called ice and icebergs. It is possible to make them in civ2, but only as immovable units. I want movable units, which get melted, if they move south. I want real ice and icebergs. And it is not that difficult to make them.

                And that is almost it.

                3) Nice to have would be a globe to play (no flat maps), but this is more of a challenge to programmers, than a need of me as a player.

                      So?

Just mod what sizes you want your map to be. For instance, if you don't like the numbered size for a large map in Civ 4, then change the numbers to increase what the size of a large map will be, to your liking.

Honestly, a lot of people are talking about things in Civ 4 as if they're forgetting the modding powers that they will have with this next title.

His concern was the playability of the game when using large maps. Since the "official" map sizes are smaller than they where in civ3, it's logical to assume that the game's capability of handling large maps is either no better than or worse than Civ3.

Outside of the purely technical concerns of how the game runs large maps, it can also mean that the game mechanics where designed with smaller maps in mind, which may make playing on large maps less fun, or require extensive modding and a reworking of the entire ruleset.

Nah, i believe big custom maps will be a reality. If the AI can handle playing a 64x64 map and also a 128X128, it can addapt to bigger maps.

I believe the problem would be the time it takes for the AI to do the pathfinding. The larger the maps the more calculations it needs to do, and I don't know many people who would want to wait 15 minutes each turn just for the AI to finish it's calculations
This space is empty... or is it?

Yes... that's exactly what I've been trying to say.

Civ3 is already poor when it comes to wait times, and civ4 seems like it will either be no better or worse in this regard since the standard map sizes have been reduced.

I bet Soren has improved the pathfinding algorithm.
