  • No, no, NOOO!! Why?

Why did they do it? Why?!

I saw a CivIV screenshot with a city name "Cherokee". Did they commit the Ultimate Faux Pas from CtP? Did they reduce the Native Americans to a "Native American" civ with cities named after tribes rather than using a specific tribe?

Do we have a "European" civ with cities called "France", "Italy" and "Norway"?

No. We do not. We WOULD not.

Do they not understand why Canadians refer to them as First NATIONS?

Why am I so enraged by this?

It's not like there aren't enough unique and successful native American nations to focus on. The original Souix were great. The Iroquois were even better. The Navajo would be a fantastic addition. Would it not be cool to see War Chief Narbona show up as your avatar? For that matter, if Ghandi can be an avatar, would Sitting Bull be the pre-eminent diplomacy screen avatar?

Maybe that's what they've done. But Sitting Bull was not a Cherokee chief. Not at all.

Oh, I need a more productive hobby.

Did the Cherokee have city names?

As things go, even if they did reduce them to a native american civ, it's a pretty silly thing to get so upset over.

They lived in peace, not long ago
                    A mighty Indian tribe
                    But the winds of change,
Made them realize, that the promises were lies.

The white man's greed, in search of gold
                    Made the nation bleed
                    They lost their faith
And now they hade to learn
There was no place to return
                    Nowhere they could turn.

Cherokee - marching on the trail of tears.

They were driven hard, across the plains
                    And walked for many moons
                    Cause the winds of change,
Had made them realize, that the promises were lies.

So much to bear, all that pain
                    Left them in despair
                    They lost their faith
And now they hade to learn
There was no place to return
                    Nowhere they could turn.
