  • Any info on copy protection of this game?

    Hi,

Anyone having any info about the copy protection being used in this game? I hope that they wont use Starforce as this is the ugliest copy protection. Also your opinions/comments. Thanks

Maybe they will follow the very sensible trend of not having CD checks.

      Yeah sure...Don't think so.

I guess you could write to Take2 and ask.

Anyone have any Take2-published game? What copy-protection do they use?

I don't know for sure what copy protection will be used.

I do know for sure it will be PWND within hours.

I hope they wont waste money on a useless copy-protection, but I doubt it

              Same here.

This is the perfect reason to drop it right from the start, and annoy the paying customers less.

Those who download it wouldn´t have bought it anyway. So copy protection is just a waste of time and money...

Optimist. I expect it to be PWND before release.

If they use StarForce then I will automatically download it. Its not worth messing up your computer to buy the game.

Careful, we can't talk about such things

Agreed that Starforce is crap. Intrusive software installed without the knowledge of the paying customer. Very nice marketing move.

Quite right. I was wondering who would bring this "subject" up first.
"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." -- JFK Inaugural, 1961

It was either TaxCut or TurboTax (I can't remember which) some tax seasons ago that bundled some nasty anti-piracy software in their product that completely buggered people's CD-writers. The firestorm that erupted led to a noticable drop in sales for the offending company. They learned their lesson and removed it in time for the following tax season. SuperPower2 also utilized such software and some people reported problems. The developer or whoever provided a fix for them. I'd hate to see CIV go down a similar route. It's a great way of getting bad press and public outcry.

He was right, though. Using crap like StarForce will make people seriously reconsider buying the game.

                              Yes, he is right.

I believe it was TurboTax 2002 that you are referring to DRoseDARs. Awful, awful.

A quick search on google will lead you to multiple forums where storied are relayed about degraded performance, OS lockups, and complete OS rebuilds performed due to StarForce.
