Here is a thread for discussing what we know of Civ4's moddability, things to do with the known moddability, and extrapolations.
It sounds to me like we could make clones of SMAC, Civ1, Civ2, Civ3, or Risk, all of which I would be interested in doing for myself. A colonization clone sounds possible and appealing too.
How would ease of moddability likely compare with the things extreme modders do now? It seems to me people do things that cannot be done using the editor. I do not want to need to learn new skills elsewhere in order to mod Civ4.
I guess it should theoretically be possible to create a RTS as well, if so desired...

) there is no use for me in converting it. I'd probably concentrate most of my time on tweaking the rules of the game along with the AI. The latter part seems very intriguing to me, rather than my tic-tac-toe AIs I've been making haha. I could only imagine what some of the CtP2 people might be able to do and of course Sn00py with his AMAZING graphical changes.
