hm what impresses me is that you have a Frontier Elite wiki going. That is the best open-ended space game I have seen...and one of the last major PC games written completely in assembler...

Nice work on the wiki, I see you invested quite some time in it... I think it's really a good idea to have a wiki as reference, but you'll have trouble getting people to actually contribute to it. Most of us here are used to the forums, and even I have to admit it's more practical to stay here

However, that does not change the fact that a wiki is a great system for structuring content and allowing collaboration in content editing. Especially something like The List could profit from a wiki, as a wiki automatically tracks changes (the good ones do, anyway).

I think the way your wiki looks and works at the moment is a little strange, with the two different designs from the content tree to an entry's details. Have you considered using coWiki? (see cowiki.org) - after testing several wiki systems including your docuWiki, I found that this wiki has the most interesting featureset, and provides a very good level of control on how people are allowed to contribute. And it's clearer... but that's just my two cents

I think the wiki idea can grow into a reference that could be integrated into apolyton - it would be easier for apolyton users to use the reference if it was part of the framework. Maybe something for the future?

Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, cowiki is not an option at present unless I either upgrade my server package or cahnge service providor, as I do not have sql facility.

Also, I prefer the dokuwiki feature of storing all data as plain text, as that makes emergency recovery a LOT easier.

As for levels of access, dokuwiki suits my needs just fine. I bet you haven't even seen any trace of my genuinely private pages on that wiki. The one thing I would like is an easy way to grant access rights without using ftp (the existing admin web interface sucks), but I understand that is being actively worked on in the development version. My big gripe against dokuwiki is that the search feature is essentially broken at present.

The other thing I'd really like to see is a way to add discussion pages and user pages automatically. But thats more bells and whistles than essentialia.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about the two different designs being present though. I do of course want to make it easy to use, so if you have any recomendations, feel free to shout.

Incidentally, I am not adverse to migrating to a better wiki backend, but my criteria are:

        - no sql at all
        - php preferred as the programming language, as I have at least a passing facility with it, so I can at least pretend to be able to modify it.
