One small thing I like from CIVIII is the fidgeting motions the units do, 'specially the pikmen with hayfever

I second that motion, and will push this nuclear device here if I do not get a third.

This is a good thread. Atmosphere and flavor are everything, whether you're playing Magic: the Gathering, Baldur's Gate, or Civilization.
Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost.

Could a mod delete some of the more spammish posts?

I'm interested to hear what else you think is part of the Civilization atmosphere and flavor.

OR possibly where am I wrong, and what is just plain silly...

Civilization games are great because they give you a taste of being special. You can be a humoungous and mighty empire, or a small and sophistacated republic, or afairly sized and wealthy democracy.

                            - Make changing ages meaningful. Add a free tech. Change the map and interface style.
I hate it when GalCiv does that.

                            - Keep advisors. Make them useful, and perhaps find ways of give them automated tasks (just like you give govenors)
                            Yes, good idea.

                            - Make a fuss about discovering new large continents or for clearing most of the world map.
Yes. 51%? Everything not counting landlocked seas?

In Civ I : The newspaper and the tech discovery screen.

In Civ II : Wonder movies, advisors, the list of the richest/happiest/largest civs (can't remember if this was already in Civ I), the sounds that played when you found/conquered a city or when citizens revolted... lots of little things

In Civ III : some funny messages in diplomacy and from your advisors, some of the cool animations for the units (riflemen sneezing etc.) and... hm... ok, Civ III was less atmospheric than Civ II, IMHO.
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.
