    I liked this in civ3. But the current system kinda sucks IMO. If each resources worked like food/shield/commerce, and you stack them in treasury like you do with gold, it would be better IMO. And each unit building costs certain amount of resource....

    any ideas?

    Lots of people have been suggesting stuff like this.

    The idea I like best is:

    Each strategic resource tile is worth 1-10 points each turn, the value being fixed, but may change over the long term.

    These points are stockpiled in a similar manner to gold.

    Each time you start building a unit that requires them, the strategic resource cost is taken up front. No refunds if construction is cancelled or interrupted.
